The Animal Outing stamp set from Stampin’ Up! works well for people of all ages. I was asked for a baby card, and I knew that the kangaroo with the baby koala in her pouch was the perfect stamp for a card for a newborn girl.  I don’t think I will ever understand why there is a baby koala with the kangaroo, but when the stamp is this cute, who cares?!!

Deciding on the stamp was easy, the color was a clear and simple choice (Powder Pink), and the rest fell into place quite smoothly.  I combined a design that we made at Candy Ford’s team meeting (my awesome upline) with a card I made and posted previously, which you can see HERE. The Animal Friends thinlets coordinate with this set, and when I looked at them, I knew that cutting the leaves in white with a pink background would provide a “cute factor” and help to tie everything together for a baby girl card.  The Animal Outing stamp set and the Animal Friends thinlets are currently sold individually, or as a bundle with a 10% discount. Here’s a picture of most of what I used to create the card. The messy picture is a little bit scary, but some of the supplies are for convenience, and you would not need all of them to make this, or a similar card.

Card Stock Dimensions

  • Whisper White Thick 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″
  • Powder Pink layer 4 1/8″ x 5 3/8″
  • Whisper White layer 4″ x 5 1/4″
  • Whisper White scrap for sentiments 1″ x 3″
  • Crumb Cake 3″ x 3″
  • Powder Pink circle 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″
  • Powder Pink banner 1 1/2″ x 2 1/4″

To make the card, I cut the layers, and burnished the score fold for the card base. Working with the top layer of Whisper White, and the leaves thinlet, I lined up the leaves across the layer, and cut twice with the Big Shot, then glued the Whisper White layer to the Powder Pink layer.

I stamped the kangaroo on Crumb Cake, and cut her out using the coordinating die from the thinlets. I cut the pink circle on the Big Shot with the largest circle die from the Stitched Shapes framelits, centered the kangaroo onto the pink circle, and glued it, then glued the circle onto the white and pink layers.

I trimmed the bottom edge of the banner with the Banner Triple punch, but it could also have a straight edge. I stamped the two sentiments on scrap Whisper White using Crumb Cake ink, then cropped each with the Classic Label punch. They could easily be cut free hand. I glued the pieces onto the pink banner, then tied a small bow with the Whisper White ribbon, and adhered it with a mini glue dot.

The finishing touches included coloring the koala with the Smokey Slate Light Stampin’ Blend, and adding some Wink of Stella to the koala and to the kangaroo’s nose, because they are worthy of some bling!
