Patriotic Triple Time for the Candy Hearts Blog Hop. Welcome to our June blog hop. Today we are sharing Patriotic themed projects. After reading my post, be sure to check out the great projects on the other blog posts from the Candy Hearts, our group of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators.
My patriotic project is a red, white and blue “Celebrate” card that can be used for numerous occasions – Flag Day, Independence Day, birthdays, hostess gifts, graduation, accomplishments, etc.
So, Patriotic, huh? Well, it was a challenge to think of something to make, but I am always good for red, white and blue. I decided on red and blue roses with triple time stamping. I learned this technique a few years ago, and I haven’t used it in a while. I did a quick internet search to make sure I had the right name for the technique and can you believe it? I found a tutorial from our upline and leader Brian King at stampwithbrian.com. His informative post was from 2012, so the old is new again!
The technique is also called triple layer stamping, and it entails three layers of card stock stacked and lightly adhered together. You then stamp the images across all three layers, take the layers apart, then adhere each to a mat of colored card stock. It looks a little complicated and kinda fancy, but it is quite simple. It helped me to think of the layers in inches – each layer of white is an inch smaller than the next size, and the same one inch applies to the red (colored) card stock. If the inch tip is not helpful, please ignore that sentence!! And, I recommend using grid paper to align the card stock while adhering layers (speaking from experience of trying to only use a ruler) – YES to grid paper!.
Stampin” Up! Materials
- Stamps: Healing Hugs, Many Mates
- Real Red card stock: 4-1/4″ x 11″ card base, 3-14″ x 4-1/2″, 2-1/4″x 3-1/2″ layers.
- Whisper White: 4″ x 5-1/4″, 3″ x 4-1/4″, 2″ x 3-1/4″ layers. 2″ x 3/4″ scrap for sentiment.
- Ink: Real Red, Night of Navy, Garden Green
- Other: Lovely Labels Pick A Punch, Grid Paper, temporary adhesive, glue, Stampin’ Dimensionals, rhinestone
After cutting the paper, stack the layers of white card stock, centering them on top of each other, one inch from the next layer. Temporarily adhere the top two layers. I used washi tape, and you can also use Post-it notes, or tape runner. Remember, the grid paper is helpful!.
Stamp the images across all of the layers, then remove the adhesive. Since my card is patriotic, I stamped roses in red and blue and the leaves in green. I restamped the roses a couple of times for good coverage. You will notice that the edges of the images across the layers are not crisp and clean. Most of the white will be covered by the colored card stock. I actually like the extra white in my roses for a vintage look.
Adhere the stamped layers to the corresponding card stock. Layer the largest stamped piece onto the front of the card base. I like to use glue for layers since it does not dry as quickly as other adhesives and allows a little “wiggle” and adjusting time. Remember the grid paper!
After each stamped layer is matted on card stock, add the medium layer on the large layer, and the small layer on the medium. Most of your white will be covered by the card stock, and you will have your triple stamped images and layers.
Next, stamp the sentiment in red on the scrap of white card stock, then trim the ends with the Lovely Labels Pick A Punch. Ink the edges of the sentiment by lightly dragging the label across the Real Red Stampin’ Pad. Adhere the sentiment to the top card layer with Stampin’ Dimensionals.
To complete the card, add a red rhinestone to the label for some bling and some flair. And there you have a lovely triple time stamped card. Do you love it? Anyone who receives it will.
