Sea Turtle Birthday Card with Whale of a Time
Sea Turtle Birthday Card is a project I made with products form the Whale of a Time Suite from Stampin’ Up! My team leader issued a challenge for us with a card sketch for this card layout, and I knew that I wanted to work with the Whale Done stamp set and the Whale of a Time Designers Series Paper. I had already made a few cards with this set, but this was my first with the adorable sea turtle.
I cannot say often enough that this suite is gorgeous. I love it; it is fun to use. You might ask “what is so great about cute ocean stamps and a whale punch?” Well, the products are really cute, and the sentiments are versatile: thank you, congratulations, birthday, love and more. The maritime colors work beautifully together, and drum roll, please… the paper is absolutely stunning with rich colors, cute images and pretty textures. It is all about the paper! Here are some, but not all of the printed papers included in the Whale of a Time Designer Series pack:
And now, for the card. This is a good card for beginners and casual crafters, as it is uses simple techniques with stamps, ink and paper.
To make today’s card, I started with a scrap piece of gold foil, then selected the turtle paper from the designer paper pack, and decided that a stamped sea turtle could take center stage on he card. I selected a piece of the dark printed paper from the pack to frame each of the “blocks” on the font of the card. I chose Balmy Blue for the card base, accented with a layer of Pacific Point, two of the many rich colors that coordinate with the designer paper. I stamped the turtle on Whisper White card stock in Pacific Point ink, and colored the turtle with a Blender Pens dipped in Pacific Point ink, and Balmy Blue and Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Blends. You could use Blender Pens and ink for all of the coloring. I then topped off the turtle with three Gold Glitter Enamel Dots. I glued everything to the front of the card, and stamped “Happy Birthday” from the Zany Zebras stamp set towards the bottom of the card in Pacific Point ink. I also stamped a turtle on the inside panel of the card in Balmy Blue ink.
For adhesive, I used Multipurpose Liquid Glue for all layers, which I like because it dries a little bit slower than other adhesives to allow more time for adjusting the layers.
